Ellicott Mills Middle School Raises $5,800 For Grassroots

EMMSEllicott Mills Middle School recently held its annual school-wide Change Matters Walkathon to benefit Grassroots and raised over $5,800. Poverty and homelessness were the focus of the school’s Student Service Learning program, and the walkathon was the action component of the program. Grassroots is the county’s 24-hour crisis intervention center and shelter for the homeless. In addition to the Walkathon, the school participated in a Zumba class with local Zumba instructor Laura “Lulu” Sines, shown with students (from l.) Alex Scott, Ashleigh Hix, Kirsten Prox, Caroline Walther, Jessie Barke, Katelyn Hanks and Lavender Gilmer.
