Grocery Drive Attracts Former Grassroots Client

Grateful recipient shows generosity by donating shopping cart of food items

A recent food drive at the Hickory Ridge Giant to benefit the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center brought out the generosity of grocery shoppers who stopped to visit with the volunteers. One woman announced to the group, “You really helped me out when I needed assistance, and I’d like to help you now.” She donated half of a large shopping cart filled with canned goods and other items. The food items are being used to prepare three meals a day for 55 people who are living in the Grassroots shelter for the homeless on Freetown Road in Columbia.

Among the volunteers collecting food at the Hickory Ridge Giant were (from l.) Wendy Steward, Etarae Weinstein, Elaine Gorman, Hattie Katkow, Chelle Ginsburg and Terri Clayman.
