Marriotts Ridge High School Fills Empty Bowls for Grassroots

Benefit on Feb. 23 includes all the soup you can eat and a paint-your-own ceramic bowl created by students in the National Art Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society, the Black Student Union and Culinary Department at Marriotts Ridge High School are hosting “Empty Bowls 2023,” a community fundraiser for Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 5-7 p.m., in the school cafeteria.

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance via the Online School Payments portal:

Only 100 tickets will be sold. Admission includes an all-you-can-eat soup and bread dinner and paint-your-own ceramic bowl.

The ready-to-paint ceramic bowls have been created by Marriotts Ridge High School students. The soups are made by students participating in the Marriotts Ridge High School Culinary Arts program. All of the proceeds from the event go to Grassroots, Howard County’s only 24-hour crisis intervention center and shelter for the homeless.

The National Art Honor Society was founded by the National Art Education Association to inspire and recognize students with an outstanding ability in art and to bring art education to the attention of the school and the community.
